star wars movies are like christmas movies to me

dec 19, 2025

i've just begun my star wars rewatch because ever since december 2015 when the force awakens released, i have associated star wars with the holidays. i just remember lots of star wars themed christmas commercials and BB-8 gifts in every store. also, how has it been a whole decade since the force awakens released? that means it's been 10 years since my senior year of high school, when i got back into star wars. i used some of my christmas money that year to buy myself this R2-D2 sweater from forever 21. i NEEDED to have it. my it was my favorite thing to wear to school paired with a skater skirt. and i still have it.

i loved star wars as a kid. i regularly borrowed the dvds from the library, and my favorite was always return of the jedi. i played ps2 games like lego star wars and battlefront II, but the first (and oldest) star wars video game i ever played was actually super star wars on SNES. i remember it being a crazy hard game and 8 year old me could never get past the first or second level.

the hype around the force awakens was what got me back into star wars for the first time since elementary school age, i did unfortunately miss out on seeing it in the theater because even back then i rarely ever went to the movies. the last jedi ended up being the first star wars movie i ever saw in the theater, but that felt less significant than if it were the the first star wars movie since the prequels.

i'm actually only doing a partial rewatch. just the original trilogy and the sequels, except for the rise of skywalker because i had just recently rewatched that over the summer and i think that was enough for me for now. i've also never been big on any of the star wars tv shows except for the first couple seasons of the mandalorian. i really do hate that star wars has kind of become like marvel lately, there's just TOO much content that it no longer feels exciting. so i'm just a more casual star wars fan, mostly just caring about the movies.
